Unfortunately, seafarers can and do experience a number of
serious incidents onboard - ship abandonment, kidnapping
and piracy, accidents and hospitalisation, deaths and
suicides. All of these can be traumatic to both individuals
and the entire crew, and the assistance provided by
charities can be invaluable and is greatly appreciated by
ship managers, ship owners, P&I Clubs and others in the
maritime sector.
He adds, “When seafarers are asked about life at sea, they
often say they miss the feeling of being connected. And that is
exactly what Stella Maris provides – human connection. And
we know that face-to-face interaction makes a huge difference
in lowering stress and increasing happiness and positivity
which in turn increases motivation, ef昀椀ciency and safety.”
