LOSS PREVENTION
The Swedish Club
Enhances TELP with
New Seasonal
Iceberg Advisory
The Swedish Club is committed to
providing support to its members to
help them operate safely, even under
the most challenging conditions.
A key part of this commitment is
the Trade Enabling Loss Prevention
(TELP) service which plays a
central role in the Club’s proactive
risk management strategy. TELP
is offered free of charge to all
members. Once registered, recipients
automatically receive timely alerts
tailored to their trade routes. Since
its launch in 2022, the Club has
issued 367,770 alerts, providing
members with vital information to
avoid potential disruptions.
The most recent addition to TELP was
introduced in April. The Iceberg Alert is
speci昀椀cally designed to assist members
navigating areas where seasonal icebergs
and sea ice present elevated risks. There
are considerable challenges encountered
when navigating in ice. While large icebergs
are generally easy to detect and avoid,
smaller formations such as growlers—
floating chunks of ice that barely break the
surface—can be much harder to identify
and pose severe risks to commercial
vessels. The ability to anticipate and
mitigate these dangers is crucial for safe
and ef昀椀cient voyage planning.
The Iceberg Alert introduces a geofenced area that outlines zones where
ice hazards are commonly encountered.
Within this broader region, a smaller
high-risk zone has been identi昀椀ed, where
concentrations of sea ice and icebergs
are at their highest.
